The Katoomba & Upper Blue Mountains Bendigo Community Bank recently supported Zonta with a $500 sponsorship of the Zonta Breast Care Cushion project this year.
The purpose of the project is to assist local women who are recovering from breast cancer surgery. Breast cancer predominantly impacts women, however we do also make our cushions available to men.
“The cushions aid breast cancer surgery recovery by allowing a patient to sit, sleep and rest comfortably, as well as by preventing hurt from bumps while walking around and any discomfort from wearing seat belts. The U-shaped satin cushions, complete with a strap, are worn like a handbag to protect the chest and armpit.
We distribute the cushions to patients in local hospitals including Blue Mountains District Anzac Memorial, Nepean Public and Nepean Private, Lithgow, and Hawkesbury hospitals via the McGrath Breast Care Nurse who supports these hospitals.
If you haven’t (or you know anyone who hasn’t) received a cushion in hospital after breast surgery, please PM us and we will be happy to get one to you.
